From upload to answer

  1. 1Upload

    PDFs, Word documents, text, Markdown, HTML and source code are stored in S3 object storage.

  2. 2Index

    In the background, text is extracted and split into chunks, with code split by function and class. Each chunk is embedded and stored in pgvector.

  3. 3Retrieve

    Your question is expanded into related queries, matched against the chunks and reranked by a cross-encoder. If web search is on, Brave Search fills the gaps.

  4. 4Answer

    OpenAI writes the answer from the best chunks, and the demo lists the documents and web pages it used.
